A small book about noticing.

The Way of a Cat began as notes.

Things I noticed while watching a cat. The places they lingered. What held their attention. How completely they seemed to inhabit whatever was before them.

Slowly, watching them became a way of looking at myself.

To observe without immediately judging.
To notice what was already here.
To want something, and still remain open to what arrived instead.

Observe. Study. Be.

Poems, observations, illustrations and pages for your own noticing.

There are no instructions for how to use them.

Write a little. Write a lot. Leave them empty. Return months later.

Two illustrated pages are perforated and made to leave the book. Frame them, keep them somewhere unexpected, or give one away.

The making

This book took its time.

Notes became poems. Poems became drawings. Drawings moved around pages. Papers were touched and compared. White space was kept when it would have been easier to fill it.

We wanted to make something quiet.

Something to read, write in, touch, carry and return to.

A book. A journal. Two pieces of art.
